THE CONCEPT
With the assistance of two Jack Russell Terriers, a horse halter, and a background in knot-tying, the revolutionary hardware-free ROPE-N-GO™ Harness was developed.
The need for a non-choking restraint became apparent to us after discovering that walks with Hansel and Barkley were anything but enjoyable. The constant wheezing and gasps for air was not another play-act coming from these two, but a response to the pressure that was being exerted on their windpipes from their traditional collars.
Still wanting to go for our daily doggie walks, we had to find a solution. We knew a harness was the next obvious choice, but we certainly didn't want to purchase one from the local pet store. After all, we are supposedly the braiding and knot-tying gurus of u-braid-it™ Braiding Supply Co. and our motto has always been "if we can braid it, why buy it?"
That's when the wheels started turning! If a popular selling horse halter could be made with no hardware and still provide safe and effective control, why couldn't a dog harness? Thus, after countless proto-types and a year of product testing, the end result was finally achieved—we had developed a simple, lightweight, comfortable, fully adjustable harness without employing the use of awkward buckles and fasteners. Walks were now humane and pleasurable as they should be. At the urging of friends, a patent was soon applied for and granted.
However, it didn't stop with the invention of a harness just for dogs. Trampling through barnyards and exhibits at county fairs, within reason we tried the harness on a menagerie of four legged animals: including a piglet, goat, sheep, rabbit, alligator, and cat.
Then someone presented us with the ultimate challenge: "W
ill it work on a chicken?" Why wouldn't it, we thought. They have four appendages, too. A smaller version using lighter rope was devised and sure enough, even a chicken can wear a ROPE-N-GO™ if necessary. Of course, we knew if a chicken could wear a ROPE-N-GO™ so could smaller animals, such as puppies, rats, hamsters, and even a toad. (Check out our gallery page for photos of all kinds of four-legged friends sporting a ROPE-N-GO™ harness.)
What was meant as a safe and gentle restraint for our own dogs, has turned into a universal harness that can be adapted to fit almost any pet. We hope every animal lover will consider using a ROPE-N-GO™ Harness—not only for the welfare of their pets, but for the peace of mind it provides the handler.
OUR COMPANY
We are a small mother/daughter company. We employ a local craftswoman and her husband to hand tie the ROPE-N-GO™ harnesses here in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Of course, Rebecca can't seem to keep her hands off the fun part of knot tying, so she still insists on tying up a few for smaller orders. You can be assured that every harness that leaves our door has personally been inspected by Rebecca for the utmost quality.(1)(1).jpg)
We try to run our company in a responsible manner. By working at home we save on fuel and the environment. We have one vehicle which we fuel with bio-fuel. We recycle paper and packaging around the office, limit the ROPE-N-GO™ packaging to recycled and recyclable plastic bags, and use an environmentally responsible company to print our hang tags and other product literature.
It is our ambition to create a green ROPE-N-GO™ collection in the future. However, locating the proper thread in the wild colors we love has proved more of a challenge. So until then, it is our hope that by creating a well made product, we are somehow lessening our footprint on the planet (please see—extend the life of your ROPE-N-GO™ here).
